Street Meat to Die for, Literally! Halal Gyro and Chicken

53rd and 6th or Chicken and Rice or Halal Gyro and Chicken
Now everyone has a place that they crave. This is more like an addiction. And yes, sad to say that my spot that I crave every now and then is street meat at its finest. Thats because I think they put crack in their white sauce. My boy took me there after the clubs one night and I was hooked! I have always seen the line there but being a street vendor I was obviously very skeptical. This place is not only cheap but damn good. As you see I am not the only one that thinks this food rocks all other carts off the street. In 2007, New York Magazine did a feature called "The Concrete Elite" (New York's top twenty food carts, in order) which my favorite lil hot spot placed #17. Don't be fooled by impostors. This cart is only there from 7p - 4am 4:30am at the latest. You will know you are at the spot if you see bright yellow bags with a red circle that says Halal Gyro and Chicken. And if the line is unusually long for a cart vendor then you are most definitely there. If the line is super crazy (which most time it is) you can always go across the street on the east side of 6th Ave and get the "same" thing! Because they actually bought the space across the street and started a cart there. But the funny thing is, even so it is the "EXACT" same thing. "No one" goes there... not even me. ok once. Be ready to wait. Some nights you can be waiting well over an hour for this plate of goodness! But I go there so often that I am friends with the guys and I just slip them a ten on the side and I am out.

For only $6 you can get your choice of Chicken, Lamb or Combo over Rice and a lil lettuce. For a $1 more you can get Pita. (If all that doesn't fill you up, you're a fatty) I think for $5 you can get a Gyro. (never had it before only the combo) They have this secret white sauce that is their version of cucumber sauce and this "super" hot sauce that will tear you ass up in the morning. Especially after a night of drinking which is usually when people hit this spot up the most.
Disclaimer: Be careful about cutting the line. People get really pissed off about that stuff there. Mainly because you are dealing with a bunch of staving waste face killers. And I do mean "killers!" Some guy stabbed a someone for cutting the line a couple years back. ouch!

I remember this story...interesting. If memory serves me, it told the 'good side' of the perp (as it should). Though I choose NEVER to view any issues as 'black or white', this was still a killer...mental issues aside.
